Setup:
2nd Floor: Internet Modem + Wireless Router
1st Floor: PC with Wireless Adapacter PCI Card + NAS hard drives for streaming that sit there waiting to be connected to the network. Have Linksys e3000 wireless router on 1st floor, unused.
We have a cable modem that is connected to a wireless network on another floor. We have a wireless router there connected to the modem (Asus) which provides Internet service to my PC on another floor, which has a wireless adapter PCI card in it. Works very well. However, I can't use the NAS devices on the network such as the NAS hard drives or printer unless I plug them into the Asus wireless router on the other floor and that won't work.
I have an additional free wired ethernet port on my comptuer because all I'm using is the adapter. Now I know that my PC has been given an IP address by the wireless router via the wireless PCI card adapter. I wanted to plug in a Linksys e3000 into the ethernet port on the PC to connect all the NAS devices (hard drives, printer) as a switch. While it would be pretty neat to have them all connect to the main wireless network, it's not necessary and probably easier to just have a private wired network using the Linksys e3000 as a switch between the NAS hard drives and printer.
So the problem is that I have no idea how to set it up and it's not so simple as just plugging in the PC into the LAN port and going (obviously the WAN wouldn't be used). I know that you should only have one DHCP server on the network but it's necessary to have the DHCP server on the e3000 being used as a switch in order to assign IP addresses to each of the devices on the private PC network. How can I make either or both of these scenarios work? Hopefully someone can provide some insight.
