Hey guys I just installed Samsung magician and updated the firmware for my SSD (840 120GB) and it says that my drive is not in AHCI mode. In the BIOS for my MOBO it is enabled, and I even did the registry key change method and rebooted. Any help? Or is this a known problem with the magician software?

Solution
To get the best speeds out of a modern SSD you need to be in ahci mode and connected to the chipset sata3 ports. In your case make sure the drive is connected to one of the 6 SB950 ports and not one of the two asmedia sata3 ports

Ok so I got it to work in AHCI mode and all of my speeds are correct using the magician benchmarking tool, EXCEPT for my random read, which is at pretty much exactly half of what it is supposed to be. I have gone through the entire Tom's SSD optimization guide as well as other stuff I have seen about optimizing the 840 series. Any way to improve that specifically?

Yeah what I did was change it to one of the 6 ports, however the random read speed is still only at 1/2 of what it is supposed to be.

Vodoo, please make a new thread that has a title like "I can't get Samsung Magician to work in AHCI," and include a summary of your issue and your OS, and motherboard model if you want to get a good answer.

These older threads are often overlooked.

Thanks.
