I am planning on building my first ever PC. I intend to use it for gaming, running computation programs such as MATLAB, watching movies and surfing the web.

My desire is to be able to run most RTS games on reasonably high settings for the next few years with a budget of $2200 dollars. also I will be starting my first post-grad job soon so this is my present to myself.

I have included a list a parts that I have researched and chosen. Please give me feedback on the part selection and tell me if there is anything that I might have missed.

note: newegg was picked for the links. when I actually purchase the parts I will shop around

OS: windows 7. i guess i can try windows 8, but i have not heard anything good

The reason I chose such an expensive monitor is I wanted to have 3D available
my calculated power usage is approximately 375 W. I want to have room to expand. Is a 425 W buffer to much?
should I get extra cooling for my CPU?
I know nothing about speakers. did I make a good choice for cheap speakers?
I am also assuming that I will not need a sound card.
I am trying to decide whether or not to get a blue ray drive. thoughts?

That all looks good, although I would suggest getting a slightly smaller SSD and spending that extra money on a more powerful GPU if you want better longevity from your rig. I would suggest a 670, and overclocking that if you feel comfortable, and if not, then wait until the new 700 series comes out and get a 760/770 then

you'll just fine with the motherboard cheaper than sabertooth. default rule for mobos is anything costing more than ~120-150$ is waste (on common user pc).
I support the idea of making GPU GTX 670.
As you're going all out , might get 16 GB of ram
logitech is a good manufacturer so im guessing speakers will be fine
No sound card needed
extra cooling for cpu would come handy if you decide to overclock - CM Hyper 212 evo is nice air cooler
Get a quality PSU from Antec, Seasonic, XFX, Corsair or PC Power and Cooling, Silverstone. ~ 600w. At least 80+ bronze quality. Cooler master is not good psu manufacturer
