Hi Everyone,
I was performing Clean up on a external hard drive (Virus Removal and CHKDSK /r). The virus scans complete successfully finding only 2 cookies in malwarebytes. During the CHKDSK /r process it at some point froze at 76% during the final step 5 of 5. When I later checked on it, the dos screen was sitting on the 76 % line, but the hard drive was clicking. I tried viewing the HDD in explorer and stopping the CHKDSK but sure enough something happened causing the HDD to error with only the dreaded clicking sound of a tired dead HDD.

My question to the community: Is there any to view view the main system to determine what may have been the cause of the external HDD going bad? Is there any logs that may have been generated? I have looked in the event viewer and there was no event created that i have found for the chkdsk operation.

Thanks for the help!
