Another PSU Question - Will I need to upgrade?

Hey guys, new forum member here!

Basically, I just have a quick question. I've been using an OCZ ModXtreme 600w PSU for around 2 years now and it's been perfect, but now I'm thinking of upgrading I'm unsure if it will suffice.

The PSU will be powering;
Core i5 4670k (Haswell - waiting until release.
Haswell compatible motherboard
AMD HD 7950 Vapor-x 3GB OC.
Two 120mm case fans
Two Sata drives
Optical drive

I've read that the GPU can use 300w under load so there is the potential that the system could use 500w~, which leaves me with little headroom and nearing the rated threshold of the PSU.

Taking into account things like capacitor aging, do you reckon I could need a new PSU? Or should I be ok?

Thanks!

It isn't that the system usese 500W, they recommend a 500W power supply for the whole system. You will probably use 350-400W max. You should be ok from a max output side.

I read an article about Seasonic getting certification for the Haswell. They were talking about the low draw side of the CPU and most power supplies don't operate at low draw. You might have to upgrade if that is a real issue.

I know, I was taking into account other factors which could mean that I'm using 500w. I've read about how energy efficient Haswell is supposed to be so hopefully I should be good. Just PSUs aren't really my forte.

You may, but then again, your current supply might not. Sorry I can't give you a more definitive answer. If you plan on overclocking or X-firing in the future, then you would probably want to look at a slightly larger PSU. Go with a trusted name such as Antec, Seasonic, Corsair or XFX.

That's fine, thank you for your reply anyway!

I'm not planning on using crossfire though I may overclock a little, minus tinkering with the voltages however. Thanks for the suggestions, what you recommend? Something like a 650 or 700w?
