Should i get the FX 6300 or the FX 8350? I'm mostly gaming and i need a faster CPU to upgrade from my unlocked athlon II X4 so i can't decide what to buy. There is a 60$ price difference between these two CPUs and i've heard that 8 cores is too much if one is gaming. Also the 6300's TDP is 95W and is probably a better overclocker though i'm not sure

Solution
I just don't feel like a fx-6300 isn't a big improvement over a Phenom II 840, so that's why I say go 8xxx. Otherwise, if you want faster gaming, sell the 6850 and get a 7870.

Nope. I had bought this MSi 970A-G46 6 months ago and now i need a faster CPU because this one is too slow for me. If you are asking this because you could tell me to go with intel then i would reject it. Intel is overpriced. An FX 8350 in my country costs 180$ when converted to dollars and the i5-3570k costs 220$ so yeah its overpriced plus i i can't get a loaded motherboard for the intel CPU for the same money as i can get a loaded board for an AMD CPU (meaning the cheapest motherboard that can OC a 3570k is about 110$ while the AMD board that can OC the 8350 (which is my board) costs 70$ so price/performance the 8350 is better. Now as with the consumption i really don't care if it draws more than 125W compared to 77W from the i5. I'd only go with the i5 if its equally priced as an 8350

I currently don't have money for any of these two so i don't have limits in money, i only have a limit in patience so if i get tired of saving money for the 8350 i want to know is it worth the extra 40$?

Ok. For now, the 8350 is a potential replacement for my Phenom II X4. So will the 8350 pull ahead of the 3570k in games that would take advantage of more than 4 cores? (dumb question right?) :D

go with the 8350, if you have the patience it will be worth it lol. comparted to the 3570k it is a little worse in gaming terms, however overclock it and you should be good. The problem with amd cpus is that the single threaded performance isnt as good as intels. if you get a game that actually utilizes the core however, you will notice the speed. And with my fx 6300 a lot of games (farcry 3, crysis 3, bf3, and witcher2 to list a few) utilize all 6 cores. However there are some that dont (usually older, or not advanced visually) and thats where you see the biggest difference between intel and amd. The i5 really isnt too overpriced where i live, i just got sick of everyone bashing amd so i decided to see, and honestly i love my cpu and gpu.

I think they bash AMD because their CPUs need much more power than intel and are running hotter. Its that or its just because of their bulldozer or faildozer as they call it lol. Anyways i've been using AMD CPUs since 2006 and this Phenom since 2009 and i can't say anything bad about their CPUs. Though sadly some people who build editing computers on a budget end up getting a core i7-3770k when they can just get the 8350 which is on par with the 3770k in rendering and costs way less. I'd say that if people let the faildozer launch go and open their eyes, AMD would have the best gaming/editing CPU in the price/performance ratio. For the 8350 you just need a good PSU and good cooling and the CPU can do the rest. Personally i'm looking forward to getting the 8350 so that i can feel its power myself. The Phenom has served me long and good but the time has come to replace it and let it rest :D

8350 won't pull ahead games when compared to the 3570k. Most game performance will be the same, well at least the difference would be hard to tell without running benchmarks.

Where I am, the 8350 is $180USD and the 3570k is $220USD. If I were buying a CPU here it would be a no brainer....8350.

Sounds like you really hate the 8350 xD

No, the opposite. I really like the 8350. I built my rig in May 2012 and the 8350 wasn't for sale yet. What I was saying is, if I was buying a CPU today I would buy the 8350 cuz it's good and cheaper than the 3570k (at least in Taiwan, where I live for now)

watch this the 8350 beats the 3770k in everything but crysis 3

Saw it a while ago. However, why is that the ONLY website that shows the 8350 beating the 3570k?

well they either have the best or the worst testing methods but Tek Syndicate has never lead me in the wrong direction before
this is video actually pushed my decision to get a FX-6300 to upgrade to the 8350 later instead of just buying the core i5 3570k
so to the op of the thread get the FX-6300 and a good cooler and overclock it and it will bury the i5 and then you can upgrade to the 8350 later or if cash isn't a problem just get the 8350 and a good cooler now just make sure you motherboard is capable of handling the 125w TD
but the AMD CPU's have more cores and that is what games are moving towards
games like Far Cry 3 , Battlefield 4, tomb raider and most new games are using more cores so in a few years a quad core will more than likely be irrelevant
