**system info and dxdiag at bottom of post**

I reformatted a few days ago, with this fresh OS I tried out the osd from rivatuner for the precision x overclock utility. This game me immediate problems as I had world of warcraft running when i booted up star wars the old republic, and the osd was trying to work with the 32bit swtor but couldn't work on the 64bit wow and so it crashed both games. since then I have had weird issues, I tried uninstalling drivers, wiping with driver sweeper, then clean fresh brand new install, and I am using the current video drivers.

The issue is the game plays fine for a while, very slight artifacting, I have to really look hard to find it and it is seldom. After an hour or more of gameplay (sometimes at 90 minutes, some times after a few hours) I have had both metro ll and bioshock infin crash, both locking screen till I use task manager to force an end to the process of the game that crashed, and then my overclock added voltage resets to 0, the other overclock settings stay the same. I can restart the game then, but I always just reboot at this stage and hope for a long period before having to deal with it again.

every time I have run stress tests it shows my oc on video card is table. I ran tests for my overclock on my pc and they have always remained stable, but to do that I did have to set voltage at 1.31v for my processor.

I don't think my CPU OC could be the cause, but I am only operating on a limited amount of knowledge on the subject, so perhaps my assumption is incorrect. Is this possibly affecting it?
also I am wondering if me uninstalling rivatuner statistics server wmight have left some corruption in an associated file and if so how do I find out and correct this?

or could my problem be something else? I did double check my ram with memtest86 and got two passes with zero errors.

here are the stats on my pc, and for the sake of keeping you updated, I have tried resetting my precision-x GPU overclock back to default settings and the issue still happened, so I have returned back to my overclock on GPU that has been stable via stress tests.

On another note these 4 games listed are the only four games I have on the pc atm. (bioshock inf, metro ll, wow, swtor) and wow hasn't crashed on me yet, and I play it for hours, but I do notice a slight bit of hang up when transferring from one phased section to another(haven't found artifacting, only slight choppy pauses aka a slideshow but rapidly and very very briefly), spots where my fps would drop from 60fps down to 52 and then back up to 60 after passing over that immediate visual space area. When I first did the reformat, for a couple days I only had wow installed and played for hours each day, and those troublesome spots were dipping down to 57 fps, but then went to the 52ish range after the issues started at the time of trying to use the rivatuner/precision-x osd.

If you need additional information from me please let me know.

:| You bought an 1000$ graphics card and overclocked it.... I sincerely hope you did not ruin your graphics card by overclocking it incorrectly, as stress testing poorly overclocked cards can cause that. What caused you to want to overclock an 1000$ graphics card?

if you knew anything about the titan card it was made to be overclocked and has set parameters that wont allow you to go beyond certain levels, overclocking a titan is very easy to do, all the guides say the same info, my overclock is fine, if you had read the entire post you would know that. I am looking for responses from people with knowledge of the way various drivers interwork, please refrain from posting here if your comment isn't well thought and studied.

once again, you didn't read the post, I stated I removed the overclock back to default parameters and metro ll still crashed in the same manner in the same time frame. and AGAIN you still haven't read the original post or you would have known I did that already. please stop throwing out random regurgitated answers you have read from other forums and let the adults talk, ok?

The reason im assuming that you may have damaged the card from stress testing under an "over" overclock is the fact that restoring to default configurations has the same issue now, where as before this issues did not arise. Only after you overclocked did this issues arise and now default clocks have the same effect. This is indicative of damage caused by overclocking.

There's a reason why the GK110 took a long time to come out, it's a massive chip that contains over 7 billion transistors. All it takes is for one to fail and the whole chip is worthless. They already disable some of the components to boost yield. Further defects will appear as the switching frequency increases.

You cannot draw any assumption about stability from "other guides". Test your entire system at stock settings with no overclocked components.

my overclock was done at a rate of 25Hz increase until failure then reduced 25Hz, furthermore my GPU never got above 71 degrees, ever.(the titan card is safe at 90 degrees) I am certain there is no damage from the overclock, I really think the issue is tied to the rivatuner statistics server failure and uninstall.
My CPU overclock has never been an issue, and if it were CPU failure it wouldn't be crashing a single game, it would crash the PC. My system performs like a champ till that crash comes, aside from the very slight issues of artifacts that are hard to find and very infrequent and tiny, and zone transfer switching which could be a game server side/isp related delay.

I still don't know why I have to keep repeating things mentioned in the first post, if you would READ THE POST you wouldn't be asking me things where the info is already given.

Heh. Exactly what I was thinking. Poster towlie, if you want help from the folks 'round here, you'd want to show some respect to people. 'Til then, we could all just collectively laugh at the image of your $1,000 slowly burning to ashes.

Like what the folks said, you might have done permanent damage to your card due to the overclock... and that is sad.

my post was very detailed, and someone half read it and threw out a guess and you expect me to show him respect? how about he respect the post by actually reading the information before trying to offer a solution?

how can you get all upset at my not wanting someone who hasn't read the question trying to answer it?

and if any of you knew anything literal about the titan card itself, it was made to be overclocked, never going above 71 degrees, and only raising it in 25Hz increments is not going to fry a card, it would require other issues for that to become a possibility, otherwise no card would be overclockable.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you seem to think that just because other peoples TITAN overclocks worked that yours would do it as well.

The Fundamental of all overclocking is there are no guarantees of success with every unit, There is always the chance that a single Unit could already be at the best potential at stock settings and be going past that you cause defects to occur, and sometimes prolonged use while it is defecting will result in permanent damage. Just because the Card is "made to overclock" or has overclocking support is not a guarantee of success.
Any person who spends a lot of time overclocking hardware will be able to tell you there is always a chance of killing whatever your overclocking just through bad luck. Guides are guides only to help minimize the risks you take.

Your symptoms has all the hall marks of damage to the card from overclocking. If you do not want to accept others advice that is fine, but people here did read your post fully and responded in kind.

And honestly have you tried , Uninstalling your GPU drivers, and re-installing them, setting the CPU and GPU overclocks back to stock and retest, if it still goes bad there
Try a different Video card (borrow one if need be) if the other video card works fine, then your titan is at fault

yes, I uninstalled the NVidia drivers completely, then used driver sweeper (in safe mode), then reinstalled (clean install checked).

This did not start until I added the RivaTuner Statistics Server, then I uninstalled it but the problems have persisted. Therefore I have a feeling it is the source of my issue, perhaps it altered the Microsoft network drivers or registry of an associated program.

And yes, you are right there is a chance of causing damage, but when done in the proper increments you reduce the chances significantly and due to the fact the TITAN card is made to be overclocked I would like to explore all other possible scenarios first, before I move to the assumption the card is damaged.

now tell me this, it is my understanding that excessive heat is the downfall to overclocking woes, so if my temps never go above 71 degrees, then wouldn't that even more rule out the likelihood the card had damage from an overclock? and for the record my overclock was very slight, half that of what I have read from others. I wasn't going to push it for a while, wanted to use a slight overclock for now.

I do have a 560ti, but can I really use it to test the system? I cant run it on the same settings as the titan, or are you saying to run it in any mode and see if it crashes?

I find it unlikely that Rivatuner caused the problems, but some third party monitoring tools such as MSI Afterburner are known to cause issues in some cases, especially when the sensors are run in kernel mode. It's unlikely, but possible. If you're feeling adventurous, grab another hard drive and setup a fresh Windows installation on it.

As for overclocking, heat is not what kills components, it does however aid the process that does. Part of the ASIC fabrication process involves baking the wafer at over 1,000 degrees centigrade for over 8 hours. The chips can take the heat, there's no worry about that. What they can't take, is the current.

The process that kills components is called electromigration. Electrical interconnects are typically made from copper or aluminum. The electrical interconnects on microprocessors are extremely tiny and very narrow. Aluminum and copper are excellent electrical conductors, but they are not perfect electrical conductors (a super conductor). This distinction is important. Electrons tend to be very bouncy, and as the potential difference (voltage) between two points increases, the electrons flowing between those points bounce around with increased energy.

If the electrons bounce around hard enough, they can actually displace atoms from the crystal structure of the conducting wire by "tugging" it out of place. To make matters worse, the strength of a crystal structure is directly proportional to its temperature. Atoms in hot wires are more easily displaced than atoms in cold wires.

The relationship is not linear. For sustained temperatures below 80 degrees there's little relationship between temperature and lifespan. However, as sustained temperatures pass 80-100 degrees, the lifespan starts to fall off sharply.

Over time, the interconnects will wear down and eventually one will break, rendering part of the chip non-functional. This will happen to every chip regardless of whether or not it has been overclocked. However, overclocking greatly increases the rate at which the degradation occurs.

Moreover, and perhaps relevant to this case, it is entirely possible that excessive voltage alone, and subsequently large amounts of current, regardless of the operating temperature, can destroy either the interconnects or the FETs.

In summary, no chip is ever "made to overclock", the processes simply don't work that way. Chips are designed with thousands of parameters in mind that establish a set of minimum and mean operating specifications. As a customer you are guaranteed the minimum for the duration of the warranty and nothing more.
