So what is the difference between the two, and is it significant at all? For example, im stuck between a 7870 or gtx 660ti.

I would choose 7870, but physx on nvidia interests me. However, the gtx 660ti has 192 bit memory compared to 256 bit.

Would you consider this difference significant? How will it affect performance? Which card would you suggest?

Solution
The 192-bit interface doesn't mean that much, because the GTX 660 ti has a higher memory clock.

You see memory bandwidth is determined by the bit interface of the GPU and the memory clock. The memory bandwidth is the overall performance of your VRAM. a 192-bit interface is quite low for a high-end GPU, however the memory clock makes up for it. The Radeon 7870 only has 4800 MHz memory clock, while the GTX 660 ti has 6008 MHz memory clock.

The GTX 660 ti is the better performing GPU. Its performance is overall better than the Radeon 7870. Its performance is right in the middle of Radeon 7870 and...

192 bit or 256 bit is the bandwidth between your GPU and VRAM. The larger, the better. However, that's not the only factor that you should consider when buying new video card, which is also the case here. 660 Ti is faster than 7870 and I strongly recommend the 660 Ti. Cheers!

A better comparison would be between the 660Ti and 7950, since they are priced closer together than a 660Ti and 7870.

The 660Ti will perform better of the two, but thats purely because it has a stronger GPU than the Pitcairn in the 7870. Once your putting it against a more equal GPU (Like the Tahiti in the 7950) then the larger memory bus (its 384bit on the 7950, so much more bandwidth) will make a difference.
