Question 1 - no, I cannot say that all wireless adapters work with all motherboards but most of the USB connectable wireless adapters are universal.
Question 2 - yes, you will need to have either a wireless router or a wireless access point plugged into a network with a wired router.
If you're going to be purchasing both, might as well go with 802.11N or 802.11AC tech for both devices.
