Hey guys,

I have the following setup now:

AMD FX-4100
Asus GTX550 Ti DirectCU OC
8GB of RAM
1.5TB HDD

I'd like to upgrade my CPU. I bought the FX4100 last summer and I wanted to get the Phenom II 965BE because I mostly play games, but the dude at the store recommended the FX-4100 because he said it was the successor to the 965BE. Turns out it wasn't, I expected way more from the FX-4100.

I'd like to stay at my AM3+ socket though, because that means I won't have to buy a new mobo.

So my question:

I need a decent upgrade from a FX-4100 that won't cost me too much. Is a FX-6300 significantly better? Or a FX-8350? My budget is around €200,- max.

Is there an Intel chip that will still perform significantly better than the FX-4100 when I buy a mobo with it? I don't want to spend much more than €50,- for a new mobo. So is there a good Intel upgrade for max. €150,- from my FX-4100?

Thanks in advance

Okay, thanks for the responses.

If I were to get a better GPU later, what would be the best bet for a CPU?

The FX-6300, 6350, 8320 or 8350?

I'm not sure whether to pick the 6350 or the 8320.

Thanks in advance!

Dude ...

The FX-4100 may not be a high-flyer, but it can still push a much faster video card in the majority of games. Yer buds have convinced you that the AMD CPU is holding you back.

It might in some games, but the reality is, the 550ti is just not a very good video card for modern gaming, and it is holding you back much, much more.
