Missing USB controller driver for XPS 18 clean reload of Windows 7 pro 64-bit

It came preinstalled with Windows 8 Home. No issues with install, and was able to track down drivers that worked for everything else, but nothing on the dell site for this and my google searches didn't turn up much. Ran Windows update a bunch, but nothing for this. Hardware ID comes up with

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E31&SUBSYS_05D11028&REV_04
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E31&SUBSYS_05D11028
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E31&CC_0C0330
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E31&CC_0C03

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. I would usually tell you to download a new security pack. I've had problems before with the USB controller driver, and what helped me was installing all of my motherboard drivers again.
  2. By chance did you end up getting touch screen drivers that worked with windows 7 pro? I am looking at doing the same thing.
  3. I just went through this exact process. Dell XPS18 from Windows 8 to Windows 7 Pro. Only 1 unknown USB device and it was the same one you posted and it's how I found this thread,

The driver you need is "Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver"

I have since lost my notes on the entire Win7 clean install process. But I was able to use most of the Win 8.1 drivers from Dell's site. For the ones that didn't run / or like the OS version, I was able to download the drivers right from the manufacturer. Intel HD graphics 4000 was one of them, I believe.

I have to do the same thing on my twin XPS18 eventually. I'll update my post with the process when I get around to doing it.
  4. Updated USB drivers for Intel USB controllers are available on Intel's Web site.
They are sometimes more generic than manufacturer-tweaked drivers but will often work.
