Hello all!
I know it is a bit old now, but with Overclocking to around 4.00GHz is my i5-2500k still half decent for gaming with the HD7970 I just purchased, or should I look into a newer CPU? If so, what would you recommend?

Thanks
Conor

If that's what you have right now then I think you're in great shape, considering you've overclocked the chip. A lot really depends on you. If you have to have the latest and greatest. To sum things up; are you satisfied with your computer's current performance when running your applications? If yes, then save your money. If no, look at upgrading.

I hope that helps!

2500k = Sandy Bridge
"Ivy Bridge" came after
"Haswell" is the current generation releasing now

The performance increases from Sandy -> Ivy -> Haswell were only around 5-10% each generation. Intel focused more on performance per watt and integrated graphics.
