I have a old 1.44 floppy disk drive, that I have installed in my new computer. It is giving me problems, I have checked: Updates - best driver software already installed.
Remote Settings - no conflicts.
Device Working Properly.
Changed to another 1.44 floppy disk drive, changed cables.
Checked the bios it lists the floppy.
All the connections are correct and connected to the motherboard.
The light comes on for the drive I changed to, it still is giving me problems.
After inserting disk the message reads "please insert a disk into floppy disk drive.", then after pressing enter the same message. At the command prompt after typing A: the message: "device is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive A: and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed." I have tried different floppy disks, the same problems.

You said the light on the floppy drive comes on, Is it always on?
if so you've got the data cable on upside down. - flip it over (with power off) and try again. It should only come on for a sec during bootup as the bios detects it.

If the data cable is not the issue, how long has the floppy drive been just sitting around? Floppy drives are the most finicky damned thing ever invented. Seems like if you don't use them regularly they gum up. Esp if theres a smoker anywhere in the house.
