Will 4 sticks of quad channel memory (16gb) G,Skill Ripjaws 4x4 or corsair vengeance 4x4 1600 run on a dual channel motherboard (MSI
990FXA-GD80) ? i wont need more than 16 for some years so i dont care about 8 x 2 for future upgrades , is there a difference between 4x4 and 8x2 , because filling all the ram slots will look better in my opinion and 4x4 is cheaper .Also can i use 1866 in quad channel memory ? (processor fx 8350)

Hello.

First of all, there is no such thing as Quad channel memory or Dual channel memory. The quad channel or the Dual channel is a feature which is integrated in some of the motherboards. If your motherboard supports Quad channel or Dual channel feature then if you install the memory in pairs like four modules or two modules respectively then the system will automatically enable the feature.

You can call it a marketing strategy which most of the companies tend to use. In fact, the reason they sell in kits is to make sure the memory is identical in every aspect. (like speed, size, CL timings, voltage etc). So they pair it as to make the user's experience of obtaining memory relatively easy.

Basically, if you order four or two modules of the same size, speed, voltage, CL timings then the rest will be alright.

If you need any info do let me know. Good luck!
