You need a case, power supply, motherboard, processor, memory, some kind of graphics either a discreet GPU or onboard, a hard drive, an optical drive is still a good idea and an OS. Sound is built into all motherboards so a soundcard is not necessary unless you want higher quality sound than the motherboard offers.

FYI, the mobo listed only has 3 audio jacks at the rear, so probably not the best (mic & 2 speaker channels (L) & (R) ). Depends on the OPs needs/budget whether it will be good enough. Also, what will the computer be used for and what kind of budget do you have?

Well I am on a budget for a mobo for about 50 -78. I just need a mobo that has up to 16 gb that can take 1600 ram and has an am3 socket for my phenom ii x4 965 black edition cpu

the optical drive is the one that reads optical media like CD's and DVD's.
Similar to a DVD or CD player.

Is that included in the mobo or do I need to buy one?

I found some and they look like one that I have from an old pc. Could I take that one and put it in or is it just stuck?

A phenom ii x4 965 black edition cpu

A radeon sapphire 1 gb 7850 graphics card

8 GB of 1600 Ram from Kingston

This psu http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Builder-Watt-EPS%C2%A0-CX600/dp/B0092ML0OC/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369098037&sr=1-1&keywords=600+psu

Windows 7 home premium 64 bit

I don't know if I should buy a fan for the cpu because some people complain that it sucks.

the only problem with reusing an old optical drive is the have a certain life and it is most likely an ide interface which the newer mb do not support. You would end up buying an adapter for a piece of equipment that has limited life. Just get a new one.

Go here for parts. At least if you are in the US. It shows you where the best prices are. Usually not Amazon.
