More about 7950 7870xt
  1. The 7870 XT is the AMD equivalent of the 560-448. The 560-448 was a 570 with a broken SM. the 7870 XT is a 7950 that has been brought down" to 7870 level. I'd get the 7950 if for no other reason that it's not an oddball and wuld be easy to match or replace.
  2. 7950. if you overclock you can reach 7970 speeds
  3. Here is a comparison between both of them, the 7870 is very close to 7950 and doing very well @ your resolution pushing more than 60fps on all games.

also the link i provided is for the 7870 non-XT version.

7870 is a fine choice unless u r planning to upgrade to 1080p or above

If you don't want to absolutely max games (i.e. turn every setting up without even bothering to see what they do) on your resolution, a 7870 XT will be MORE than enough, and will let you get a nice mouse. Personally, I like my peripherals and consider it by far the better option. (Though I did spend $120 to import a keyboard from England, so...)

That being said, Jack Naylor has a good point in that the card will be hard to find later down the road if you want crossfire in the future. However, he undersells it a bit; it's a great card.
  5. At that resolution either is overkill. Go for the cheaper 7870Xt.
  6. At that resolution or even at 1080p, the HD7870XT should be fine for atleast a year. Put money on the mouse. It's a good buy.
  7. Thanks everyone for the answers, what about future games? will i still be able to hold up with the 7870xt?

Side-question: Is it worth upgrading to 1080p from my current res?

Yes! Its worth it, the HD7950 will have a little longer lifetime IF you are someone that OCs. If you do not OC, the 7870XT is a better idea.
  9. From that resolution, I wouldn't bother upgrading to 1920x1080. Wait for when 1440p is commonplace.

And yes, the 7870xt will still be able to play future games at decent settings.
  10. Thanks for the answers, again.

the 7970 xt seems to have run out of stock in newegg, any other store that does the 4-games AMD promo?
  11. All stores should do that promo - it's AMD offering it, not newegg.

No mention of it on Amazon, weird
  13. Amazon doesn't hardly ever update their postings except for prices. I'd go for it, and even if you don't get the games, you should be able to write to AMD and tell them what happened to get them.
