I recently bought my PC hardware at Fry's and one of them was the Thermaltake TR2 700w PSU. I looked for reviews for this PSU and saw a lot of "Dead psu, killed my system" or "makes a crackling noise". Is this true? Has anyone used this and can give me an honest opinion on it?

I cut out the barcode on the box for a rebate, so according to Fry's return policy, I can only get a replacement of the exact same PSU. I really don't want to mess up my system? I don't know what to do. :/

Thermaltake TR2 (and TR2-RX)Tier 5 - NOT RECOMMENDED. Replace ASAP if you have one. http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx

I can't. Fry's return policy doesn't let you return it.
I don't know what to tell you then.:(

I'll see what i can do. Hope for the best :/  god fucking damnit. This is unrelated, but if I wanted to clean my computer, is touching the motherboard going to kill it? Or is touching the interior of the computer completely unrecommended?

Also, when someone says a PSU is bad, which area is it bad in?
Is it just a piece of hardware that fails, or not efficient, too expensive, doesn't function, or DOA?

Tier 5 power supplies are NOT RECOMMENDED. If you have one, you should strongly consider replacing it ASAP. These can damage your computer, and often cannot put out the power that they're rated for.

the new TR2's are nothing like the old ones, the TR2 700W(not the rx) have super low ripple, even when overloaded by 40W
they stay within atx spec right up to 740W continuous power. (740w is the safety overload cutoff for this PSU)

I've been using mine in my very aged power hungry beast now, without a single hiccup, infact since I've got it my system has been rock solid stable, and it used to blue screen and all sorts of crap on my Aywun 750w

As many reviews on the new TR2's say "I don't know why they put TR2 branding on these PSU's, as the old TR2 range has a bad reputation for being garbage"
