"Used Memory" is lower after waking from "sleep"...?

Hello all. I've noticed something partially odd with my RAM. When I start up the computer and after I let it "settle down", it sits at about 1.2-1.4GB "used ram." When I put the computer to sleep - and then wake it up sometime later, there's only 0.8GB "used."

When the computer is doing a virus scan (AVG) - it'll go all the way up to 2.4GB used, but when I'm done, it will just sit at 1.9GB. I checked the task manager - and I don't really see anything fishy...at least to my untrained eye.

BUT, when I make the computer go to sleep...and re-awake it, there it is again...0.8GB.

My question is why - and then followed by how can I make it so that during idle or after startup (without sleeping)... there's <1GB "used?"

Thanks.

Oh, by the way, the computer is running 4GB of RAM.

Well. This is the wrong forum. Most likely it is either disk caching that is freed when required *or* it is something that gets shifted to the pagefile during sleep.

In any case, I wouldn't worry. The memory managers of modern operating systems are very complex.

Bumping is also discouraged.

What the. I could of sworn I posted this in "memory." Sorry about that. Good to hear about the caching...yeah I just always like to see less RAM being used. Oh well. And thanks for the heads up on the bumping.
