Question about iGPU

Hi everyone, I've been looking at motherboards for a budget gaming build of mine and have decided to use the integrated graphics on the amd A10-5800k. I have a question on the compatibility of the iGPU and the motherboard.

This mobo says that it doesn't have an onboard video chipset, as do many others, which I thought to be no problem.

and then I saw that this mobo said that it had an onboard video supported only by cpu's with integrated graphics, so I'm confused.

Is the onboard video chipset separate from iGPU and if so does means that I can use the iGPU on all the mobo's assuming the right socket? Or does the mobo have to have a video chipset to use the iGPU?

Different marketing terms - most likely trying to get people doing what you are doing. Being confused and maybe going for whichever one says they have it.

No FMx MB has onboard graphics, they passthrough the signal from the APU's iGPU. However, most people consider that to be integrated graphics as it is within the MB/CPU system.

They both support AMD dual graphics, meaning the one from the APU and a dedicated 6670. It means if your CPU didn't have built in graphics (it's an APU so it does) you would need a dedicated graphics card.

Edit: Go for the second link one just because it's way better quality mother board. ASROCK one.

I didn't mean dual graphics like the iGPU and a dedicated one, I meant only the iGPU.



If they are interchangeable why does one motherboard say that it doesn't have a video chipset and the other one does?

Ok ill try to rephrase my question, does a motherboard have to have an onboard video chipset to support the iGPU?

To say something has an onboard video chipset means it has an igpu. As I said, they are interchangeable terms. No current gen mobo has onboard video anymore. You will only find this on older ones. They are always on the cpu nowadays. As long as the mobo has video outputs, you can use the igpu. If the mobo has outputs but there is no igpu present then they will not work.

ok double rephrasing, Some of the mobo's say they don't have an onboard video chipset (like you said), but some say that it is only supported by a cpu with integrated graphics, so what is the difference?

But it's not marketing it's newegg doing the newegg listings. It is most likely from different people entering the listings. One says it does not have igpu because this is in fact true, the mobo does not have onboard. This is not saying it does or does not support it. The other is just giving more info saying it supports it but only with a cpu that has igpu. But in fact both are exactly the same since they both have video outputs.
