I've ordered a new Heatsink and Fan for my Dell Studio 1558 ( the temperature gets so high and reaches 70 C with computer doing little tasks), I will install it soon ( has not come yet), my question is that do I need to reapply the thermal paste or the new Heatsink and Fan come with already thermal paste applied.

with lots of thanks for the help

Well that depends if the heatsing comes with thermal paste pre-applied. Usually you can find it in the description of the item. But you also need to clean the old TIM from the processor with some rubbing alcohol and a cloth.

thanks for the reply..
I've contacted the seller and he's told me that the item comes with pre applied thermal paste, what you mean by cleaning, do you mean i should clean the CPU and chip before applying the thermal paste, and can i use the spary used for cleaning the LCD monitors and glasses or i should buy it separately...

You'll need to clean the topside of the CPU where the old thermal paste remains are, preferably with a clean cloth and rubbing alcohol. Make sure the cloth leaves no remains but you should be fine with a LCD cleaning cloth.

Thanks for the reply, I've ordered the thermal paste Arctic silver 5 as well as ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL ISOPROPANOL LIQUID 99.9%, so I'm going to clean the CPU and GPU and apply the Arctic silver 5..
I'm just still thinking of removing the pre-applied thermal paste in the new heatsink and fan , and apply the good quality Arctic silver 5.
but there's one thing, do I need to tint my heat sink or now...

If you have the Arctic Silver 5 already you might as well remove the pre-applied termal paste and replace it with that. As i recall laptop cpu's are a lot smaller so make sure you don't use too much (about a drop about 1/10th the size of the cpu.)

Yes I've just received the new heatsink and fan, there's a layer of sticky material ( i assume it's the thermal paste) in two parts , the first one is a bit bigger material that is on the heatsink where it's going over the CPU, the other sticky material that is on the part that is going to cover the Graphic chip i guess..
I've got the Arctic silver 5 already, and tomorrow i will get the ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL..
so do you think i should wipe the thermal paste and put the Arctic silver...
lots of regards for answering me

Yes you could do that it could be better than the pre-applied thermal paste
