Don't bother buying upgrades, when you're dealing with a laptop.

Either get a desktop, which is best for gaming.

Or get a new laptop entirely.

Gaming laptops are expensive, considering what you get for the price.

Planetside is also quite a demanding game and a laptop with only 4GB

RAM and a laptop-GPU might struggle.

Furthermore, an i7 doesn't add very much gaming performance, to justify its cost.

Thus you should only get an i7 if you do things like image or video editing or

have deep pockets.

You can't upgrade to an i7 or any Core series processor in this laptop.
You can't upgrade the GPU in this laptop.

You are better off getting a new laptop if wanting to play games on one. The graphics will not be enough to handle what you want to do, regardless of CPU. You don't have to go all out on a gaming laptop like X79 said unless you are looking to run everything on very high settings. If you are only looking for low to midrange settings, you can cut back a bit more. At the end of the day, as was mentioned, a desktop is still a better option for gaming.

these a insipiron 15r with i5 and other upgrades, its looks just like my laptop so i should be able to do thoese mods, as long as my laptop gets a bit better without me haveing to buy a new one, il be happy. this was given to me so i dont want to buy a new one for 600 when i could mod this up a bit for 100

There is an old line of Inspiron 15r's and a new line. The Inspiron line is quite an old Dell line and probably includes processors as old as yours alongside new i5s too. It does not mean you can upgrade. You have Socket P. These new i5's have atleast Socket G1 or G2; they're not compatible with eachother (P and G1/2).

A processor is usually more than 100$. Espiecally mobile ones.

Best you could do is a mobile core 2 like say a T7700. Will be faster, but it will not help you with games at all because the integrated graphics are too weak and cannot be upgraded. I couldn't even properly play WoW on Intel IGP in my old laptop with a core 2. You can forget about anything current with it. If you want to game, get a desktop or get a better laptop with a proper graphics card built in.
