I have the *.zip download from asus but when I try to open it the machine shows a *.cap file which I cannot open to install the update. What do I need to open this file and install the bios update?
thanks

Solution
Here's what I would do:

(1) Copy both the renamer utility and the .cap file to your desktop (unzipped)
(2) Left click menu button in lower left and choose computer
(3) Drag and drop the two files to the Local Disk (C) icon - windows will tell you that you need administrator rights - just click continue
(4) Open a terminal by clicking the menu button in the lower left corner and typing "cmd.exe" without the quotes. When that option appears in the search pane, right click and choose run as administrator
(5) The terminal will probably open in c:\windows\system32. To change the directory to the root folder, type "cd \" without the quotes. Note that there is a space between cd and the \
(6) Your terminal should now read C:\> which...

Markwp, Thanks for the link. I'm going to have to back track it some since my mobo is not listed and I'm using W7 64b. I don't understand why when you unzip the download it converts to a .cap file instead of a .exe file but I guess they have their reasons.
Thanks.

Did you download your items from HERE?

Look under bios utilities (just below bios update) and get the renamer utility. You can then flash from a usb stick. If you would rather use dos (command line) get the bupdater utility and run from command line.

Here's what I would do:

(1) Copy both the renamer utility and the .cap file to your desktop (unzipped)

(6) Your terminal should now read C:\> which is the root directory
(7) To see the contents of the root, type "dir" after the > again without quotes. Somewhere toward the top of the list you will see your BRenamer1.exe file and the bios cap file. When you are ready to run the renamer, just type BRenamer1 and press enter.
