More powerful in which way? Compute? Gaming? Rendering?

With a bios update you can use the new FX cpus to get more cores (though the 965 can be overclocked easily just add your own cooler like hyper212).

If gaming we need to know the resolution you are playing at to recommend anything and the current PSU size (wattage amps etc.).

Ok. Every CPU fits into a certain slot (ie. LGA 1155, AM3+)
You have to check that the motherboard has the same slot as well. For example a 1155 CPU wouldn't work with a 1366 slot.
That motherboard has a am3+ slot, so you want to look for an am3+ CPU.
Good luck finding a CPU :)
Btw, I'd recommend a 8350 or a 8320.

Pretty much every GPU will fit, your computer is modern enough. As for what card depends on price. Note most 23inch screens have a resolution of 1920x1080 aka 1080p or full hd.

To drive a monitor as such consult benchmarks for games.
LoL benchmarks: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/league-of-legends-performance-benchmark,3484-6.html
wow benchmarks: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-660-geforce-gtx-650-benchmark,3297-13.html

Ergo in most cases a 7770 should do fine on high. For wow on ultra you'll need something faster. But for $100 the 7770 should be good, alternatively the 7790 might also be off interest. If you want Nvidia the 650/650ti boost are pretty much direct substitutes.

A major driving factor might also be any bundled games that come with the cards.
