Thanks for your help.

I have AT&T uverse. My gateway's signal strength wasn't powerful enough to reach a new HP OJ 6600 to print wirelessly.

I purchased a Netgear dualband wi-fi extender. I'm pretty sure I set it up correctly, I can access the internet with my iPhone using the extender's wi-fi signal. I can also get the internet using a notebook PC and a Mac on the same extender.

The computer I'm using to actuate the printer is connected to the network via an Asoka plug-link. I have internet connectivity using this device. The printer has been connected to the wi-fi extender using the HP wizard app.

When I try to get the computer to communicate with the printer to complete the setup, the computer can't find the printer. The computer is hooked up to 2Wire 0074 and the printer is hooked up to 2Wire0074_EXT.

I'm guessing they can't see each other because they're on different named networks.

Should I just hook up the computer wirelessly so they're both on the same named network (2Wire 0074_EXT or is there something else I'm missing?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

OK. This is how I fixed it.

Sorry it took so long to post this.

My first step was to uninstall all the HP software on the original computer. When I re-installed it, I used the prompt that downloaded the latest software from HP to install the product. I think this was key.

I then re-installed the latest version software. When the software asked me for the IP address of the printer, (which was already connected to 2Wire74) I provided it. The program informed me this was an automatic IP address and wouldn't work.

I was then asked to update my IP address for the printer. I was prompted to connect the computer to the printer via USB printer cable. I did that. The program ran a bit and said it had successfully re-assigned the IP address. I was then prompted to complete the process I would need to reboot my router. So, I went to the basement and unplugged the router for a moment or two and plugged it back in. I waited a few moments for all the lights to start flashing. By the time I got upstairs the HP program informed me that the new IP address was working successfully and prompted me to remove the USB cable. I did this and the printer is now working just fine wirelessly. I have saved all configuration settings.

The printer now works via the wireless extender. It is located as far away from the home gateway as possible.

Thanks!
