My current build:
AMD fx6100 3,3ghz
ASROCK N68-VS3 FX
EVGA GTX 670 FTW
8 gb ram
700 watt power supply

As of right now my BF3 fps is jumping from 30 to 80. I did alot of research and found out that my CPU is horrible and its bottlenecking my gpu. First off i tried to OC but my mobo is horrible which is causing my comp to freeze even when i OC it to 3.4 ghz.

Does anybody have an I5 alternative to this build. I need an I5 with a mobo suggestion that would blow my current cpu away (i need part suggestions). I am unsure of how much the I5 is but will i be able to do this under a 300 dollar budget?

You could just get a better motherboard and overclocking your FX6100 to something around 4.2Ghz.

If you even consider going that route, on the cheaper end, you have the $74 Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131872

Or if you want to spend more money, the $130 Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 is a great board - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131874

Even more money, you have the $180 Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131877

If you really want to go Intel, you can get an I5- 3570 for $195 - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0087EVHTE/?tag=pcpapi-20
And an Asrock H77 Pro4/MVP for $83 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157302

Can't really overclock these but they are a good combo.

Intel total - $278

Thanks, i decided to get new mobo. Just out of curiosity why is my current mobo not good. In the manual it says it has the capacity to OC up to 1.55 volts.

What makes a good overclockable motherboard is simply VRM or voltage regulator module. It takes the voltage supplied to the motherboard ( +3.3V, +5V or +12V ) and basically converts those voltages to what the CPU needs. Usually the higher priced boards have better mosfets and more power phases, you may see some advertised 8+2 phase VRM. That means 8 phases in 2 channels. On most motherboards if you look to the left (some are above or below) of the CPU socket you will see the VRM components. If you compare a low end board with a higher end board you will easily see the difference between them.

I seen on your other thread, asking the same question and you were recommended to get the Asus M5A99X Evo which I also recommended in my previous post. Let me compare that Asus to your current Asrock.

Asrock N68-VS3 - 3+1 phase vrm with low quality mosfets and components. Supports up to a 95W CPU. That means it's terrible for overclocking and your FX6100 is really on the verge of requiring more power than this board can supply to it under load. Even a modest 0verclock shows it weaknesses. This board is simply crap.

Asus M5A99X Evo - 6+2 phase vrm with high quality mosfets and components. Supports up to a 140W CPU. The number of vrm phases is lower than the really high end boards (8+2) but it uses quality components and will be rock solid. You can overclock your FX6100 to about as high as the CPU would allow without the motherboard holding it back.

There is a lot more to VRM and what makes a good motherboard. Here are a few links that you can read through if you really want to learn.

If all you're changing is JUST the motherboard, then no.

It'll literally be a clean swap. Like nothing happened. Your BIOS will be new of course though, so anything you changed in the BIOS in the old motherboard will be overwritten of course.

But the BIOS and motherboard has little to nothing to do with the hard drive, the container of the OS. So you can literally just use the exact same installation of Windows with the same hard drive as if nothing happened. Drivers should link up the same too.

Quick question. With the ASROCK N68-VS3 FX i did overclock comp from 3.3ghz to 3.8 ghz. Whats wierd is that my 3Dmark score went down from orignally 6700 to 5900. How the hell is this possible even with my mobo being horrible.

Those temps are fine...

No, the motherboard shouldnt cause a performance decrease like that.

You did turn off cool and quiet and turbocore though, right?

CPU-Z detected the change in clock rate right?

So overclocking and you are now getting worse performance?

Post the link to your 3DMark scores so we can try to figure out what is going on.

You could using MSI Afterburner and have it monitor your GPU usage to see if its heavily fluctuating.

So i replaced my MOBO from ASROCK N68-VS3 FX to the Gigabyt 990FXA-UD3. My 3D mark went up from 5900 with the old baord to 6900 with the new board. And BF3 fps doesnt jump anymore from 20 to 90 it stays at about 70 to 80 now. So apparently it was my mobo. Just out of curiosity how the hell did my old mobo cause such low performaces?
