how to select a router for my DSL modem?

I want a wifi network in my home, for that i want to buy a router to connect it with my existing modem but no idea how to select it. i'am confused in 150 &300 mbps and can i also transfer files between my laptop and pc through that network. Please also suggest a router for me under the range of Rs 1500

Any router on the market will do what you want so long as it has an uplink port to accept the cable form the MODEM. I don't know what your currency is and what it will buy but the cheapest available will do the job. The router will act as a hub to trade files form one PC to another - desktop or laptop - Windows or not. Post back when you're set up if you have problems with that.
