I was planning to get a phenom ii x4 965 black edition. I keep hearing that you need thermal paste or its going to over heat. Does thermal paste come with the cpu?

Solution
I have the same CPU and yes it comes with thermal paste already pre-applied to the cooler. No need to buy it separately. Only if you're installing a 3rd party cooler or for some reason you need to re-install the stock cooler.

most of the time is pre applied on the cpu cooler.
people say that you should apply a better one, but since you probably wont change the stock fan...
From my experience the pre applied one works fine

If it comes with the stock cooler, it should come with thermal paste. To be honest I've never seen a cooler stock or not come without thermal paste. Although the after market coolers generally come with a tube of it while the stock cooler comes with it pre applied. If you get it, don't touch the bottom of the cooler because there is a white pad there, that's the thermal paste (or thermal pad, almost the same thing).

With Phenom II X4 it's grey colored (silver), not white (silicon). Just a heads up :)

the one said it will overheat may had an Over Clocking in their mind since it's BE processor.. (O.C. is one of it's strong point)
u will need better/aftermarket cooler and thermal paste for better O.C. result...

the thermal paste that came (pre-applied) with the stock cooler is fine for normal usage..

Thermal paste is thermal paste, if it's thermal paste then it doesn't matter as long as it's a good cooler if it's water mixed with some slow liquid (e.g. honey, glue, ect) sold as thermal paste, that's bad.
