Hi the error message means that this is not the correct bios for your mobo, even though you would appear to have done every thing right. The clue is your current version number is 0202 and the first version number for the asus/mobo/download page you went to was 0209.

I had the same sort of issue when updating my asus bios as I hadn't realized the pro version had a different support page to other versions of my board. So double check the exact model motherboard you have, the software maybe mis reporting it so I'd recommend looking at the actual board or use CPUID to confirm what you have, also ensure that you enter your OS in the Bios download page.

They just have not updated the bios for that particular motherboard since 2009 and there is no Windows 8 compatible bios for it at this time. The last bios revision was P5GC-MX/1333 0413 BIOS for Windows 7 64bit.

Then that's the reason. The BIOS for a barebone is different than the one for a separate board (even if similar models). ASUS probably didn't want their barebones OC-ed or similar (guarantee reasons) and they flashed different BIOS-es.
You have to download the BIOS from the barebone page (what model?).
Or, since the BIOS chip is on socket, then you can order one from ebay or ASUS eStore (if in US) - for the P5GC-MX model and replace the board's one.
