Hello,

This is the first time something like that happened to me.
Here is a brief description of what happened.

When I start the computer, I get to Windows XP ( Home edition) logo screen and computer freezes.

I went to BIOS and changed the primary boot to CDROM, no luck, I get to the same screen described above and computer freezes.

I would like to try anything I can before I decide to take it to the shop somewhere.

I can go to BIOS and navigate there but I do not know what to look at to investigate if the hardware is OK.

Any suggestions on where should I start?

I also tried hitting F8 on reboot to start windows in safe mode but it id not work either.
Is the F8 the key to press in XP Home?

Please help, this computer is 5 years old but it was a built and was still in a very good shape until now....

Thank you, cheers, AJ

There is likely very little to do with your Bios, because your OS software changed something in the boot process. If your HDD is not found in Basic tab then auto scan for it. Otherwise press F8 immediately after the post screen, see if it will start in Safe Mode. If it does, you have a bad startup configuration problem, run msconfig & look at startup tab for unwanted programs, possible virii.
