Hi,

I'm trying to get rid of my GTX 560 Ti while it's still worth a bit of money. I don't use my computer for gaming anymore and since my room mate moved out all I can hear is the GPU (he used to play music all the time and/or watch videos but now the room's just dead silent). The CPU is watercooled but I never found the money to replace my GPU by one I could watercool so the noise really bothers me espacially since the GPU isn't required anymore (I only use my computer to watch films and shows, access the internet and to do a bit of programming).

The problem is I can't seem to get the computer to boot without a GPU. I've got an i7-860 and a rubbish Dell 0T568R motherboard (before you ask the point of watercooling such a system, I felt it would be fun and it was, plus I got a great deal on second hand components for the loop). What I do is plug the monitor into the DVI port of the motherboard. When I try to boot I get nothing for like 5 seconds and then the three beeps that indicate there's a graphics card issue.

Any help or information is appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Kevin.

Check with dell to see if the system has onboard chipset for video.
The sb and ib CPU te ipgpu is in the CPU chip. On older pc the video was built into the mb chipset. On some pc in the bios you can turn off the onboard video chipset. Some mb have a jumper. With your video card download msi afterburner. The card should default to fan speed of 30 percent. Card should not be heard unless it under gaming load r the fan gone bad on the gpu.

I provided a link to the motherboard's specifications.
I've (obviously) already got afterburner.

I could/can hear every single GPU I've ever seen in my (short) life. Whether it's a slight whine, the fan's rotor (if that's what it's called) or airflow, there's always something you can hear. No matter if you've got an awfully loud CPU cooler or dead silent one.

I'll see if I can find anything in the Bios settings.

core i7-860 doesn't have onboard GPU or IGP support, you need a dedicated GPU

That's what I thought about first.
But the link to the motherboard's specs I provided says the board has onboard graphics.
Even without knowing that, why would a motherboard have a DVI or HDMI port (mine has both) if it doesn't have onboard graphics ? From what I understand, you can only use such ports if you're running onboard graphics and if you've got an actual GPU you've got to use it's own ports because the motherboard's are automatically disabled.

the motherboard has an IGP, but the processor doesnt support the IGP

The only solution, as implied earlier, is to turn down the fan as low as you possibly can. MSI Afterburner should do that for you. You'll want to monitor your temperatures to make sure they're safe at a given fan speed, but if you really don't do anything that puts a load on the GPU, you should have a fair amount of head room, thermally speaking.

If your ears are just too sensitive for the lowest possible fan speed, then I sympathize, but it's tough luck. Might want to look into adding some background noise to simulate your departed roommate's presence. ;)

Ok :( . Well that sucks.
I've already got two people willing to pay 90€ for my 560 Ti... I guess I'll sell it anyway and use my slightly louder GTS 240 that runs @85°C idle.

or sell the 560Ti and get a cheap card, like a nvidia GT610 , should be around $45 or €35

I could do that I guess. But seeing all my hardware, my loop, the whirlpool in the reservoir and all makes me want to jump right back into hardware and change everything but my loop xD. I really shouldn't though :p .
