I have seen several threads on this error but could not find an answer to the issue I am experiencing :
Gateway desktop with Windows 7 64 Bit, 8GB RAM, nvidia GT240 graphics, 1GBit Ethernet.

The PC just shuts off at some point in time.
It happened initially when using the Internet, but since then also happened with local applications.
Copying 1TB from the network to the local drive worked fine.
Copying from one disk to another caused the system to power fail occasionally.

Graphic drivers just got updated.
CPU temperature widgets on the desktop do not show any increased temperature (<60C).
CoreTemp never had any of the temperatures above 57C in the logs
Virusscanner (G-Data, to scanner engines) and MalwareBytes report no issues

Fans are clean and running at lower speed, enough convection, no dust.

The system just shuts off and leaves an error -6008 in the event viewer records... pretty generic.

I just exchanged a hard disk but do not want to continue just with try and error.

Last night I started in Safe Mode and loaded the system by copying large directories from one disk to another. And it failed inbetween. Aftwerwards the intervals between power shut offs get shorter.

I am wondering which component I should focus on next: PSU, Mobo?

Anybody having a suggestion?
Thanks
Joe

My focus here would be the PSU. I would begin by swapping it out but before you do that, you might change the motherboard battery (or at least check that it's at 3v) since that can also have a (non-explainable) effect upon stability
