I've done some research on what to look for in a motherboard but I'm still clueless. The two motherboards I found so far (mostly because they had good reviews) were the Asus Sabertooth Z77 and Asrock Z77 extreme 4. I don't want to buy a motherboard purely based on good reviews. If you could give me some pointers on what to look for in a good mobo I would really appreciate it. My CPU is Intel core i5- 3570k. Sorry if this question pops up a lot.

If you have a local computer store or micro center walk in and look at the mb.the first thing to look at is the thickness and weight of the mb. Cheap mb like biostar are thin and flex a lot. Flexing of a mb is not good as you can break a trace. Look at heat sinks and caps and power input on the mb.
All mb make heat the hottest chip now is the main chipset chip on intel mb. Most new mb now have a glued on chipset cooler. Msi and few mb vendors now using millitary spec voltage regs and caps on a mb as a new selling point. Vendor uses good high temp caps the mb should last for years.
Look at mb look at there warranty and rma paperwork. Some vendors have better warranty and support. The saber tooth for the extra cost comes with a 5 year warranty. Also look at bios screen and driver and bios update pages. Better vendors drop a lot bug fixes when found. Some vendors drop a new mb then one or two updates then stop supporting there product.
I have the saber tooth it a great asus mb. I got it for the USB flashback that on it and the look of the dust cover. The two small fans are loud. If you do buy this board you can replace them with better fans or set the to turn off unless needed. Asus started asrock to make good lower end mb. Asus wants to buy back asrock.
