Hey guys!
i just ordered a 4gb gtx 680 at a bargain price, and would be buying a 23" 3d monitor (120hz) ; i was wondering if a single gtx680 oc 4gb running at 1080p would put up 120fps so it would be worth it buying the monitor

Solution
OP you do not understand the difference of 120hz vs 120fps. Ignore the 120fps this is a finite number and does not matter what we are looking for is 120hz the refresh rate of the panel. When in 3d you will get almost exactly half the frames as in 2d so if you get 80fps then about 40 in 3d. yes it takes a very good card your will be fine though I have a 670 powering 3 screens and I can set most games on high. You will not most likely be able to max out details in every game but you will still be able to set the details quite high so go for it.

your correct there its just if im buying a 3d monitor i should be able to run 120fps so that the "3d" wont come to waste :/

If thats your intention its fine, higher framerates pull more from the CPU, so are harder to achieve, 3D goes to 60. I ran a 670 with 3D for a while, couldn't complain, you have to drop from ultra to high sometimes to get 60FPS but no big deal.

Here mate, I posted this a while ago, its a FPS list... more or less what I got....
it might help you in case you want games..

"Hello, I do have a Gigabyte 680gtx with a 1138MHz OC GPU, i7 and 8 GB DDR3, you know the normal hi end gaming pc... and I play bf3, crysis 3 and Starcraft 2. The GPU is not enough to hold 120 hz on ultra settings.... I have an Asus VG278H, the 3D one; I will post my FPS for each game, so you can get an idea...

Battlefield 3 - Vsync on - ultra settings : 2D= 75 FPS, big maps 55 FPs +-... 3D = 30 FPS +-

Crysis 3 . Vsync on - ultra settings: 2D= 30 FPS .... 3D = 20-25 FPS .... (not recommendable in ultra settings)

Starcraft 2 "Extreme", Vsync on: 2D= 99 FPS approx .... 3D= 40 FPS ( I do not recommend play it on 3D but watch replays instead because there are too many bugs for the 3D settings... )

Crysis 2 ultra, vsync etc... I was getting like 50 FPs approx.

If you want to play them at ultra and super smooth, you either need a SLI ... but you should go deeper on the titan specs cause I heard that 2 GTX680 cards which are the same money give you 130% more performance than the titan... but... your call "

BTW which monitor are you getting?

Dude You are so wrong! 3D gaming is taking it to a whole new level! I play sC2 everyday like two 4v4 games, and I watch the replay on 3D, and man seriously! full graphics Starcraft is like a fucking movie! and Crysis 3 on the "post human warrior" difficulty and the 3D setting, is the best game I have played so far! graphics, difficulty, gameplay... is freacking amazing!!

and blackwhite, I was asking about the monitor cuz I own a Asus, and it has a bug, you can't start the 3D setting properly... So just in case ....
