I am getting a phenom ii x4 965 black edition cpu. I was replacing the fan with a coolermaster hyper 212 plus. I saw them in a video but they look huge. I have an acer m420 veriton case. I don't know if I get it, that it would fit.
I'll be happy to answer any questions.

well, they usually publish dimensions of cases as well as hsf. that should help you out.
like so:

you can check your case or just measure

Measure the distance from the side of the case to the face of the CPU. You need at least 160mm.

My guess is that it will fit?
183 (W) x 455 (D) x 370 (H) mm

If 183mm is the outside width of the case, you have to subtract board thickness + standoffs + CPU thickness.
The distance from the CPU face to the inside of the other side of the case

To compare, the Antec One case which I have is 241mm wide. The CM Hyper 212 Plus fits with about 10-12 mm to spare.

But the mobo doesn't put it in mm. No thickness either.

If the case dimensions don't list the clearance from CPU to inside of the panel, the only way to know is to actually measure it.
As said...the Hyper 212 Plus or EVO needs ~160mm minimum clearance
