Hi,

I am experiencing some problems with a computer with the following specifications:
. Asus Sabertooth x79 LGA 2011
. Core i7 3930k 3.2GHz LGA 2011
. 32GB DDR3 1600MHz Corsair Vengeance (8x4GB)
. Nvidia Quadro 4000 2GB GDDR5
. 128GB SSD SATA 3
. 6TB HD Sata 3 7200RPM
. Windows 7 Professional 64 bits

Windows is installed on the SSD as well as the autocad, 3dmax and sketchup.

The computer turns smoothly, but when need to work with autocad, 3dmax or sketchup is a sadness.

Sometimes the programs freeze and return after a few minutes.

Today the architect called to me and said: "I tried to render some jobs, but just did not work".

I am thinking of do fresh installation and try something differente... I do not know yet.

Does anyone have any recommendation?

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,

Vinicius.

One fact that I did not mention is the SSD was with 20GB free space, then I have an "brilliant" idea to change the C:\Users to D:\Users (6TB disk) and things went from bad to worse.

And answer your question, now I have almost 60GB free space in the SSD.

I think your best option is to get a 250GB SSD and replace the 128GB existing one. The system started slowing (in my opinion) because the drive was running out of room for garbage collection.

If you plan on keeping the 128GB drive, after installing the OS fresh, you should read through the Tweaks/Optimization to make sure the drive runs optimally - http://www.computing.net/howtos/show/solid-state-drive-ssd-tweaks-for-windows-7/552.html

most notably you should - turn off system protection, turn off pagefile, turn off hibernation, turn off system defrag of the drive, disable drive indexing, disable windows search, disable superfetch and prefetch

it definitely won't hurt to do those items now, but typically I do them after a fresh install and after all windows updates are installed - before I install any software

if the software is set up properly to utilize the HDD for storage and work in-progress (scratch disk), then I don't think you'll have a problem with the 120GB drive filling more than 45GB - remember that you only have between 98-105GB (a guess) free on that drive

Hi dingo07,

First, sorry for my delay.

I did the installation of windows, realized the changes to the SSD (http://www.computing.net/howtos/show/solid-state-drive-ssd-tweaks-for-windows-7/552.html), updated Windows, installed the driver for the Nvidia Quadro 4000 and finally installed Sketchup.

I took the file that had problems and tried to work with him, unfortunately the problem persists.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Vinicius

Sorry if I expressed myself badly when I said "the file that had problems", this issue happens with any file in Sketchup.

There's a lot object in the scene and is freezing in the viewport.

I can not execute the command 'orbit' without freezing and wasting a lot of time waiting Sketchup back.

Thanks.
