you could... it would be pushing it. my 7970 pulls about 430 from the wall average. any spikes would crash your system(bsod). you might be able to get away with it if you didnt overclock.

the benchs you see you will need to add 70-100 watts to most likely due to them only stressing the gpu and not the gpu. that 430 is from bf3 btw

ok so I need to upgrade just to be on a safe side... I have a 1600x900 resolution 20inch monitor so with v-sync enabled I won't be stressing the GPU much right? and from what I know vx450 is an underated psu it can deliver upto 500W easy and 550 would be pusing it.

what I am suggesting it is can I buy 7970 and use it for like a month or two with vx450 and then upgrade to some CM or corsair 750W psu....what would u guyz suggest?

They're OK, but better makers exist: Antec, Seasonic, Silverstone, XFX, Pcpower and Cooling, FSP and Corsair are pretty much the Gold Standard.
Where are you? Prices and availability vary according to country, perhaps we can guide you to something better/ cheaper.

The Cooler Master Silent Pro and the Cooler Master Silent Pro M are actually really good quality PSUs. There are better choices for manufacturers of course, but that doesn't deter the fact that the Cooler Master Silent Pro editions are good PSUs. I agree that they aren't the cheapest options. :)

I am in New Delhi, India so my options are bit limited as no. of products sold here are rather limited...All the options I am considering are those that are avaliable btw I found corsair 850TXV2 here as well its manufactured by seasonic but its not modular.

CM are average get an Antec HCG-520 it's cheap and damn good quality it will drive a 7970 or a 500+ Corsair unit but see the OEM of the unit too and find the reliable output. You can even drive a 7970 off of a super cheap Antec VP550. It has 2 6+2 connectors and it should be enough to drive a 7970 quite safely and it's cheaper than the HCG-520.

have you done it on a 650watt corsair psu??? hmmmm didnt think so... i have. i know 650 isnt recommend but its what i had and it worked. i wasnt recommending a 650w psu just merely saying a 750 is more then enough since 650 is enough but guess you couldnt wrap your head around that.

I didn't say you were lying or that you were explicitly recommending it. However, if I were in OP's situation and I were to buy a PSU and the 650W is cheaper and you said that it worked, I would be most likely opt to buy a 650W. You didn't explicitly state it but I just want to make a point that I don't recommend OP to try it.

Thanks guyz I belive than corsair TX750V2 should be fine to run 7970in xfire and is future proof aswell considering the next gen of gfx cards will demand less power than what current generation require. So I am going for 750W :)
