Would this be optimal if the HDD i was running off of was an IDE HDD at 7200rpm?

I have an issue where I stupidily bought a WD 320GB 7200RPM HDD (when HDDs where up in prices due to the tsunami in Taiwan) but didn't notice it lacked a SATA port; it uses an IDE port. I currently am using an old old OLD Maxtor (not sure what RPMs it reads/writes) SATA drive that's only around 230-ish GB. Now my new motherboard doesn't have any IDE ports, just SATA ports, and I want to be able to use the WD HDD as an external drive. I was wondering if it would be a suitable alternative to my Maxtor HDD for games and such if I were to put it into an external enclosure IDE to USB 2.0?

Are games suitable to be ran off a USB 2.0 drive? I don't want to try an IDE to SATA converter because my case won't be able to fit the adapter; I've tried before...

Thanks!
