This is incorrect, if you actually own a Radeon 6850 then it will have a single PCI-E 6-pin power connector. So your concerns about overdrawing power from the motherboard are unwarranted; if anything I'd worry about your PSU and even then only if it was a low quality brand.
In short, you're fine.
