I have a bit of a weird issue. I have a Rosewill R363-M Black Case and a Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3P mobo. The sound that comes out of the rear audio works great, sound clear, etc. When I use my headphones on the front 3.5mm jack it gets sound, but it comes through like the low bandwith internet sound, distroted, not clear, you can hear compression, etc. I tried different headphones, as well as playing a song not on a broswer, but through iTunes and i still get the same result.

Any ideas?

The front jacks are most probably connected to the motherboard through a unprotected cable that is subject to noise from all the electronics in the case. The rear jacks are a lot closer to the motherboard therefore not requiring a cable, instead being connected by very short wires. Since those wires are short they take in a lot less noise therefore providing a much cleaner sound.

If anyone has a more cleaver solution please do say so. :)
What I do is get a 3.5mm extension and plug it to the rear and bring it to the front. Something like this:

This way whenever I want to change from speakers to headphones I don't have to reach behind my computer case. Not a pretty solution but works well for me.

I would check the front panel jumper header. Also check to see if you're using the HD audio connection or the AC97 audio connection.
You may be off one pin. the link below is for a different case but you'll see what i'm talking about.

I figured out that it was some sort of grounding or interference issue. When I touched the cable while plugged in it was able to eliminate that. I ended up using a very short extension on the front port and that ended up working. Thanks guys for the speedy response!
