Hi everyone. I would like to overclock my fx 6300 to 4ghz (stock at 3.5) However I am a COMPLETE noob. I litterally have no idea how to set which values at what. I have an ASUS- M578l-m lx pLUS. I also have an HD radeon 7870 tahti le edition. (basicly a 7930) Help with any of it would help. And should I turn turbo core off?

I have a hyper EVO 212 that I just installed yesterday so this conservitive overclock should be ok.

I found lots of guide for like 4.5 but not just at 4.0.

You should really do some research instead of just asking for the values to input. Learning why you are setting/ changing some values will pay out big when/ if you run into a problem. Not trying to scare you or anything, but one wrong value in the Vcore and you can literally fry your CPU

Your frequency is equal to the front side bus x multiplier.

Stock FSB is 200 mHz, so to get your target overclock, you simply increase the multiplier... i.e. 4.0 ghz = 200fsb x 20 multiplier

When I did that the temps actually dropped. So I don't think it was getting enough voltage. How do I put the volts up with this mobo it seems to be locked on auto.

OK I overclocked it to 4.5 ghz. I was able to find out how to edit the voltages but I left them at auto. Do you think this is OK?

CoreTemp. I just assumed you have that program.

Now that you are into overclocking, you should definitely have it/ run it all the time. While you can get to a "set and forget" level overclock, you need to start getting in the habit of monitoring some new things like voltages and temperatures.

Under load at 4.1 GHZ it's at 1.315 V I assume that's good? I heard once it's at 1.5 it's bad

That seems low. Have you stressed tested it with Prime95? You need to run it for no less than an hour. Most people wont even call it stable in less than 5-10 hours.

During this time if you temps get too high, or your machine crashes you are unstable. \

Temps high = voltage to high
Crash = Voltage too low

If you crash, you bump up the voltage to the next increment and start the testing all over again. It can be time consuming. When getting mine dialed, it was an all day process.

Overclocking is a roll of the dice. The goal is to get your overclock while being stable. Not all chips are the same. Some people with the same chip may be able to achieve higher frequencies than others. You have quite a bit of work ahead to determine the limits of your CPU.

Other than VOLTS and the MULTIPLYER what do I need to change?

Thats it; and to re-iterate. Increasing the voltage is only done for stability. The higher you go, the higher the temps. You dont want to increase it past what is only necessary to stay stable.

yes, basically all i needed to change was 2 things, change multiplier x17.5 to x20 and the cpu vdd voltage, but watch your temps, personally iv now put back to default as am happy with 3.5 and turbo of 4.1...atm :)

when you were at 4.5 did you have turbo on or off. I'm not too concerned about my temps. At 4.0 they were 45 undre load. 40 at 3.5
