Hello,
A little new to PC building so sorry if this is a stupid question but I have an ASUS m5a78l-m/usb3 motherboard and I was wondering if it was compatible with an AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core CPU?

Through research (http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+FX-8350+Eight-Core&id=1780) I have found this CPU to be quite a good one (rivaling some of the intel i7 series), is this a good choice?

Thanks :)

CPU: Great choice! The FX8350 will do anything you need it to just fine!

Motherboard: Verify through the manufacturer's website that the board is capable of supporting 125W CPUs. Otherwise, the CPU you chose is compatible with that socket and chipset. You may want to check to see if you need to update the BIOS for the CPU, but I think you should probably be ok there. If you go to the asus website, they're usually very good about showing supported CPUs for their boards, just make sure you put the right model number in.

i would love if one of you guys can confirm that you have it and are using it seeing as its an oldish post now, as im days away from making my final decision and i really really want to go with the 8350 in my micro atx build. please god tell me this board is fine, im not over clocking i just want to play games and personal use etc. ive had so much difficulty finding a definitive answer and one of you or all of you could solve a lot of 'googlers' problems right now and mine please im begging lol. seriously il beg. if i have to go with the 4670k il have to sacrifice the r9 270x for a 7770.

what do you think the chances are of the 8350 being throttled by the board?

Personally, I wouldn't run that CPU on that motherboard.

For an FX 8xxx series, the lowest board I recommend is a 970 class board. The Asus M5A97 R2.0 and Gigabyte 970A-DS3P are great boards for the money. However, all of the 970/990 class boards are the larger ATX form factor. That may be an issue depending on what case you are using.

Yes it will work i'm running it right now with a 8350 @ 4.8GHz. If you are looking to OC then i wouldn't go with a MicroITX but if that's the size you need this will work you will just be limited to your OC because of the VRM's have no heatsinks. I put some on mine with a 120mm fan over them to help cool them but will be upgrading to a V Formula board within a couple of weeks.

The throttling is pretty bad this is why i'm at 4.8GHz and not 5GHz. If you are going to be editing or something that will require the CPU to be wide open for long periods of time then you will want a lower clock more like 4.6GHz i can do that all day. 4.8GHz will throttle after about 1min or so on Prime95. 5GHz after about 10seconds.

Hi,

May I know if 970 Mobo is normal ATX and if it will fit in to Zalman Z1 Case?

If you are going to use the M5A78L, make sure the 8350 is supported in the BIOS. Perhaps it is older generations of that board, but I seem to recall people having issues with the VRMs on the top end FX parts.
