Hi guys, i'm new here... I was hoping to get some opinions on this build. Its a £3000 custom build from cyberpower with the new gtx 780 (non negotiable lol) with the view to eventually sli the buggers :) I went i7 because the i5 3750 was only £80 cheaper. Anything I should consider/upgrade/downgrade etc? Thanks!

Overpriced xD

What he said.

And here's why - I really dislike the Level 10, it's an ugly plastic monstrosity that's way overpriced and there's about a hundred cases I would rather purchase than that one. Plastic water cooling I'm also not the biggest fan of.

3 SSDs is also massive overkill - and running them in RAID puts them in a far greater position to fail than running the drives independently. Just get one and then get a 1 or 2TB mass storage drive. That's way more cost effective.

For gaming the i7 isn't needed - and the Maximus V is ridiculously overpriced, and you could get a board that's far less expensive. That Kingston RAM is rated 1.65 V and won't work well with Ivy Bridge.

Also, don't purchase those Logitech tin cans. Paying $25 for speakers on a $3K rig really makes the whole thing look cheap. Cut down on a few things and invest more money in a better speaker setup like a pair of Klipsch Pro Medias or Audioengine A5s.

Thanks for the response, that's very useful. The speakers aren't that important as I'll have some headphones, if they aren't that good then I just won't get them, I have a set up for the tv anyway.

I'll take the advise on the hard drives and go 250sdd and 2tb hd instead.

Is the processor really not worth £80 more then the i5??

And lastly, what mb would you go for? The Asus saver tooth or p8z77 pro?

Thanks for your input :)

What's plastic water cooling?

That's another term for a self contained liquid cooler - they use plastic tubing instead of real PVC tubing that full liquid loops do.

1. Yeah that will be a far better storage solution and more cost effective.

2. No - games don't make use of the extra threads that the i7 provides except for maybe something Crysis, but very few (if any games) use the resources that Crysis does.

3. Sabertooth isn't really worth it either. The plastic armor on the board traps more heat than it's supposed to prevent. The P8Z77-V Pro or the Gigabyte Z77X-UP4 TH are better, cheaper options.

It has crossed my mind many times to build it myself and maybe treat myself to a second 780 with the savings but this would be my first build and it's pretty expensive if I mess it up lol

You would have to try really hard to mess up building a computer.
In the past there was the chance of bending a pin on the cpu but intel changed that.
The hardware today is clearly marked and with the advice from this site you will be buying compatable parts.
You actually stand a fair chance that a prebuilt rig will have things come loose in shipping.
The I7 is not needed but if you want to get it no problem go for it.
Also Do not skimp on the power supply and the fully modular ones are easier to work with.
The one you have selected is not a bad unit but considering the level of the build and maybe 2 GTX 780s I would get a better larger unit. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207021

I guess.... This site is great, the advice is spot on and very helpful. Can you advise on a really good water cooler? Something that looks awesome, safe and runs freezing? All I've seen is crap looking h100i etc or buying individual pieces of hose and fittings etc. it's hard enough getting compatible components, without worrying about all the water cooler crap lol

Water cooling is just not necessary for a rig. If it's your first time building I'd just skip it entirely and get a strong air cooler like a Noctua D14 or a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo.

Really? I want it overclocked to high hell and although it's my first build, it may be the last build I get to do for a loooong time so I'm not looking to keep upgrading it, beyond adding another 780 sli..

Kind wonder how the moderators are picked here.

They tell you a fabrication to interpret the claims. Like g-unit1111

That Kingston RAM is rated 1.65 V and won't work well with Ivy Bridge.

I do not know where he did pick up that 1.65V memory story. Or what memory he did mean.

Kingston says about blue memory this :

then other thing.

I'd just skip it entirely and get a strong air cooler like a Noctua D14 or a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo.

Why anyone recommend Noctua D14 it old and it is loud cooler. New model is in store.

This is better in all categories you can think off.

the third thing.
Water cooling is just not necessary for a rig. If it's your first time building
Plastic water cooling I'm also not the biggest fan of.

Anyone who thinks differently is wrong? Or is this one false opinion again? Think.

I really do think that moderator needs to tell truth. Or maybe not here. But why is moderator telling lies? IMO
This is kind funny to notice the way things are handled in this forum by moderators.
