Hello you guys! Recently I have decided to upgrade my pc and need your help on what to put in it. I currently have an intel i2400 with 4 gigs of RAM and a GTX 460 2GB. I really dont have any huge problems with my processor but recently my case has started making sounds while playing Sleeping Doogs for example,in what turned out to be that the core was overheating. I was thinking about the GTX 670 ghz edition and an upgrade in RAM but do you think that i should replace my processor too? And to be honest I cant really decide on a GPU since all I can judge them from are the FPS scores in benchmarks.. So I would be grateful if you could propose me an upgrade pack. I plan to use my PC mainly if not solely for gaming and I want them all to be playable in a very good fps level like 50 or 60 (leave crysis out of the equation :p) but dont want the price of the whole upgrade to get really really high.
Thanks in advance,George! :)

My Mobo is GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 S1156 DDR3 ATX.
I cant really find out what my PSU is atm but its certainly somewhere in the 600s.
As for the budget, 500. 600 tops.

mmm... i think i'll leave your MB/CPU alone and give you some upgrades that you'll notice immediately. particularly since you're happy with your cpu.

here you go. this will be a significant upgrade in performance. you might want to wait a week and get a 760ti... it should be the same thing as the 670... maybe a little better, and likely will be around the same price. (don't know about pricing yet, just taking a guess)

Thank's a lot man. Just a few more things. What is the main purpose of an SSD? And will my i5 bottleneck a gpu at the level of the gtx 670? And is the 670 a good GPU? I mean will I notice a big difference from my 460?

the 670 is about 2x the gpu the 460 is (or more). your cpu will be a bottleneck at times... in certain games... but generally it won't be a serious issue unless you like to play crappy council ports like BF3. That said the CPU is the bottleneck in that game no matter WHAT cpu you have.

upgrading your cpu would cost way more money then it would be worth, particularly since you can get much more performance out of other upgrades such as the 670gtx or the ssd.

The SSD would be your new boot drive. i'd do a fresh install of your OS onto it, and stick your most played games/apps onto that drive as well. you'll wonder how you ever survived this long without an SSD. and thank me for it.

The ram is about as high quality ram as you'll find that is not the magic Samsung ram, not that you really need top of the line stuff, but since you only have 4gbs of ram i figured you might as well get the best available if you're getting a ram upgrade. its on sale for a good price, so leap on it.

overall these three upgrades will stretch out the life of your system a few more years till you decide you need to get a new mb/cpu down the road.

not really... the 670 superclocked has it's voltages upped a bit which is something you can't do with the base 670... so it will perform a bit better and overclock a little better. the 7970 ghz edition will likely have better caps and a better cooling system, but otherwise will be the same board as the stock 7970. Overall the 7970 at stock is a little slower then the 670... overclocked (even against the 670 SC) its a little faster.

I like the nvidia only because you can get a pretty good performance boost from SLi if you want to go that rout... the drivers are better, the power/heat draw is much better, it's quieter as well. That said if you like the games that come with the 7970... and have no plans to xfire/sli in the future... the 7970 should outperform the 670 slightly. and be a slightly better buy.

Ok. Now a pretty stupid question I suppose. Say,I go and get the 670. I cant really use it together with my 460,in some sort of cross-card SLi?
And something else. Shouldn't I worry that my CPU overheats when playing graphic-intense games? I managed to disable the sound from BIOS because it was annoying but I didnt really look more into it...

you can't SLi the 460... but you can use the 460 as a dedicated PhysX card. I would suggest you do too... that will give you a nice boost in games which use PhysX.

Get a better CPU cooler. I spent 550 of your 600 budget. 50 will get you a very nice cpu cooler and some thermal paste. Grab a Hyper Evo 212
