Hello,
I bought a computer a year or so ago and slowly upgraded it threw time and then rebuilt it using the same parts it came with and for some reason I can't get it to recognize the gpu now. when i plug the monitor into the gpu nothing will come up but when I plug it into the mother board the on board graphics works. I've tried unplugging the gpu and reinstalling it with no luck and even used another AMD card to make sure the other wasn't messed up but it also didn't work. any thoughts?

Solution
first thing to do is clear CMOS, you can do this by taking out the Clear CMOS jumper or taking out the CMOS battery, next thing is, go into bios and do it like this BIOS>Advanced Bios Features>Init Display First>PEG ...save and reboot

Its a 6670 from powercolor and doesn't have a spot to be plugged in by the pci-e but the fan runs when I turn the pc on but for some reason the motherboard wont detect it.

I've used two different monitors and it didn't work but both monitors work with my primary comp.

yes it will boot with video if the monitor is plugged into the motherboard on board graphics but when you hook the monitor up to the video card and boot the comp up nothing comes on the screen just stays blank.

Go into the BIOS setup and look for an option for default or primary video.

Two year old thread...

It won't affect anything in the hard drive but it will mess up your BIOS settings when you clear the CMOS.

They defaults may work okay ... or they may not.
