ive got a 6 cell battery that ive cracked the shell on and promptly replaced with a brand new 9 cell, but to be honest the 6 cell seems fine, aside from the two small cracks in the plastic casing. now ive heard of something called MEK or modelling cement/glue which melts the plastic to effectively weld it closed, but im not sure if there would be any dangers to doing this should some of the liquid touch the internals, though ive heard this stuff evaporates fast.

could i get your thoughts on this before i go and do something potentially stupid?

For whatever reason, I can't pull up that image.

But...a good two part epoxy might work.
Stay away from MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone). Applied incorrectly, it may well melt the case in ways you do not want.

Possibly JB AutoWeld. Insanely strong, available at your local auto parts store or probably Walmart.

Mix according to directions, smooge it into and over the crack, squeeze/clamp the sides so it is mostly the same size as original.
Wait 24 hours.

If it works, great. If it doesn't, it is no more broken that it was previously.
