Hey My dad is a Psychopath He thinks every time I upgrade a part or put in some thing small like fans or talk about upgrading my mother bored he thinks the Electric bill is going go SKY HIGH here is my set up

AMD fx4100 clock at 2500 GHZ
Amd entertainment 8 gig 1333 Ram 9 9 9 9
Radeon 7770 1g Not over clock
MSI 760GM p23-fx Mother board Bad North bridge Cant hold Clock speeds will get 60c+ which is HOT!! to touch
Corsair 430 wat bronze psu
3 Cooler master 120m Fans 2 pack ones 1 that came with the case. in a small 80m fan to keep Hard drive bays cool I use a 5400 RPM hard drive and a single dvd RW player
23 inch HP 2159 monitor 60GHZ
G15 keyboard in a 2.1 Surround sound which I have off most of the time with head phones plug into.

here is a picture of my system

I want to prove my !DAD WRONG! I'm going be upgrading to a 80 dollar board with 3.0 in 7.0 Sound for my birthday. How much Electric does it pull out of the wall I never Blue screen since I fix all my problems?

At peak gaming load that PSU will draw about 500VA from the socket (82% efficiency at 100% load). That's equivalent to a little over 8 60 watt incandescent lightbulbs.

Even under gaming conditions I suspect that your system is probably drawing at most 300 watts from the PSU, or about 350VA from the socket (85% efficiency at 70% load), or about 6 60 watt incandescent lightbulbs.

If you play games for 5 hours per day this works out to:

350VA * 5 = 1,750VAh = 1.75KWh (as far as the meter is concerned)

The average price of a Kilowatt hour in North America is 14.5 cents.

1.75KWh * 0.145 = $0.25375

If you play for 5 hours per day, 7 days a week, that becomes

$0.25375 * 7 = $1.77625

That's just your chassis though, energy consumed by your display and sound system are separate, probably bringing the total to a whopping $2 per week

you're welcome!

You think his CX430W PSU can do 480W?

While not exact we can use the rated TDPs to get close enough. 125W for the CPU, and the 7770 is rated at 100W. The average system with a couple of drives and whatnot isn't very power hungry. I usually lump it all together at 50W and call it a day. MAX your system will need 275W. Games won't drive both the CPU and GPU to 100% load so 250W is probably more likely but we can use the higher "worst case" 275.

From the JG review we can see that it is ~82% at this load. This means it is pulling 335W from the wall which is what you'll pay for. This should be .335kWh. I'll let you do the math on how many hours and what it costs.

Generally boards don't use a lot of power. And ones based on the same chipset should be around the same. There some exceptions but one $80 board should be like the others.

FYI, if this is your attitude, this is not going to go well.

430 watts DC load output / 0.82 = 525 VA from the wall at maximum rated load. The PSU should shutdown if it goes much higher than that.

I used 300 watts DC load / 350 VA for the nominal load though, which is very close to what you used.

Watch the swearing please.

I have a TV. In the near 6mos that I've lived here by myself it's been on a total of around 6 times. All for sports events. When I was at my friends house they said there was a noticable bump in their bill. But we weren't sure how much of that was my computer or my desire to run the AC. I work at night and I'm home during the day so I like it on so I don't wake up at 3PM swimming in my bed. The AC being on really drove it up.

If this is the case maybe you should just wait. Go ahead and move and then enjoy your freedom. Not worth upsetting the parents for a few months. Save your money and stay in their good graces, then move and enjoy doing whatever the heck you want.
