Hi all,

My system:

Asus P6T Delux v2
Intel 920 DO Stepping OC to 3.6Ghz
3x 2GB 1600 Corsair Dominators 1.65v

I would like to upgrade to 3x 4GB memory but I'm having difficulty finding 4GB memory kits rated at 1.65v for the LGA 1366 system.

I'm aware Sandy Bridge, the 1.5v is the norm now and wondering, if i cant find 1.65v memory, can i run 1.5v memory (Specifically either Corsair or GSkill) @ 1.65v without problems?

I'm more comfortable buying parts from my local dealer and if running 1.5v memory at 1.65v is bad then i'll look into it further and see if the shop can do something. Link is http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/default.php if be of any assistance.

But for now, please help,

Edit; would just like to rephrase part of the question. Would running 1.5v memory be ok with my system.

Cheers.

I just upgraded my memory on my 1366 p6x58d premium from 6gb to 12gb by finding some cheap corsair dominator (1.65v) dimms on ebay. 30 bucks for the extra 6gb with this super premium ram. woot! If you search for a specific model in mind, you should be able to find it, and it shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg.

I also have a i7 920 DO, which was overclocked to 3.8 and undervolted. I found when i installed all 6 dimms I had to reduce to 3.6 and increase voltage, to be stable. This may be because I have memory overclocked to 1600, which you are not supposed to do with these when all 6 dimms are filled. Anyways... stable with 3.6 and overclocked ram, and upgrade for $30 = woohoo!

PS: I just found this, but i think you can find it cheaper:

UPDATE:
I'd just buy 3 more dimms of the Corsair dominator for your upgrade. It would cost you less than 50 bucks. Used does not matter if you buy from someone with a good rating. It worked out well for me. Good luck!

if your removing your old ram just under volt the ram to 1.5v within the bios

the voltage rating is more determinated by the voltage of memory controler can handle...

since your processor (mem controler integrated on it) is specified 1.65v then it better using the 1.65 ones.. some may overclock and increase a voltage but usually only ~0.05v range

now the ram.. ram chip are designed to work at certain volt..
so higher volt may fries it, lower volt may result unstable operation...
but, there some exception..

expensive O.C. rams can handle 1.65 even they rated 1.5 since they using better chip, but it came with price.. (higher voltage needed to get better speed / O.C.)

sorry just got back from work.

I'll do that Jason thanks :)

I have some thinking to do and i'll keep in mind what you said and do some more research thanks rdc85. There are a few 2GB memory modules listed in the QVL from Kingston as 1.5v, though there are others with 1.65 too but there are a lot more from other vendors which their voltages listed as N/A, including the only tested 4GB stick from A-DATA -_-

Just an update.

Bought package set of 4x 1.5v 4GB vengeance ram mainly for compatibility and using triple config and is running sweet so far. Was able to maintain and further oc to 3.9 with intelburn 10 passes and prime95 also looking promising. Will do more testing and memtest as well to be sure.
