After 2 weeks of trouble shooting, i have come to the conclusion that the following products are not compatible together even though they say they are. I bought an Asrock FM2A85x Extreme4-m and AMD A8 5500 3.7 GHz quad core. First time around everything powers up, but no post. I tested 2 different sets of WORKING hardware/ power supplys. individually unplugged components one at a time to see if something was causing the computer not to post/no video signal. I figured the motherboard was bad. Rma'd for a new one. Same thing happens no post sound, if i take the ram out and boot up no warning beeps or anything. so then i said ok it must be the processor, so i rma'd that. got new one in just today.... same thing no posting sounds, no video, no beeps nothing..... i checked asrocks cpu list and this proc is on their list..... any ideas or help would be great! thanks

(update) SOOOOO...... aparently the motherboard though haveing an 8 pin power header, does not like 8 pin power molex. Tried 4 pin..... fianlly posted. However, now it will randomly decide if it wants to post or not from cold start or reset. this is going to sound like a stretch, but i think its the front I/O panel on this lian-li case. Brief history- this is a client computer. and the only thing that we reused was his case because its a really nice case. However before he even considered buying a new computer, he told me that he has to leave his computer on all the time, because "if I turn my computer of thomas, it just wont boot!" Super old system with WINxp on it. i never bothered to troubleshoot the old one because when i picked up his machine i had all new parts to put in it.
So, i have unplugged everything except the power button header, im going to do a minimum of 5 posts per cable to see if they are indeed causing some kind of voltage short through into the motherboard. USB header wire, hdd light wire, reset switch wire, sound wire, speaker wire. And to answer your questions spooky, no and no, because i was never able to even able to get a post signal let alone a video signal to do anything. And i forgot to state that this is an entirely new build

IMO it not the motherboard fault, it the psu that need to be replaced...
or u try finding a 4pin molex to 4p mobo power adaptor... u will need to plug all the 8p mobo power..

check the bios version if it support AMD A8 5500 out of box or require update...
also clearing CMOS after all set...
