Is the 4770k really better than 3770k?And the new Asus ROG Z87 gaming mobos look good but is it really worth waiting or should i just get Maximus V Extreme and 3770k?

Solution
Depends on what you currently have and also the price of the components you want to buy. If you currently have a Sandy Bridge CPU, then it's better to wait for Haswell since the average performance increase to Ivy Bridge is only 6%.

For example, MicroCenter is currently selling the i7-3770k for $230 (walk in store only). The price of the i7-4770k is expected to be approx. $350 which is a $120 price difference. Preliminary benchmarks shows about a 10% increase in performance going from Ivy Bridge to Haswell. Some "guess-timates" are as high as 15%. Z87 chipset motherboards will likely carry a premium over the Z77 chipset mobos; could be anyway from $20 - $60 depending on the features.

The question you need to determine for yourself if...

The best price online I've seen for the i7-3770k is $300 at TigerDirect (after $20 rebate).

If you are considering overclocking, you will have to wait to see how well Haswell is over Ivy Bridge. I am content to keep my IB to 4.2 GHz on air but I was HOPING for more when I bought it. If Haswell can do, say, 4.5GHz on air, that would be something!
