I want to build a NAS but I'm having a little confusion with what parts I need and should get. I'll try to outline everything that I know already.
- I have 6 Western Digital Red Drives that I want to use in the NAS.
- I have a Samsung 840 Pro SSD (256GB) that I have for the operating system.
- I have the Fractal Design Node 304 case that I want to use.
- I have a Corsair 650W power supply.
- I have 8GB (2x4GB) of RAM I'll be using.
I would like to end up using FreeNAS as the base operating system. Or if any other low mantainance operating systems might be available for working with accessing files via Mac, Windows, and Linux.
My general questions right now:
- What's a reccommendation on Intel-based motherboard with i5-base processor
- What's a good RAID card that could support all 6 of the drives
And if there's anything else that I might need to know, since this is my first ever NAS build.
